SGH Doctoral Summer School on International Business at the SGH Warsaw School of Economics
The SGH Doctoral Summer School of International Business will be held in Warsaw, Poland, on July 9-13, 2023. It’s purpose is to introduce students to important issues in the design, analysis and interpretation of research in international business, management, marketing, as well as international relations.
In addition to lectures, the SGH Doctoral Summer School of International Business will feature hands-on workshops on developing one’s own papers and reviewing papers by other scholars. Doctoral students will also have the opportunity to receive feedback on their research proposals from the leading academics engaged in the Doctoral Summer School.
The event will offer 30 teaching hours of seminars and workshops, including:

Thanks to the funding from the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) , participation in the Summer Doctoral School is free of charge. Participants must, however, cover their travel and accommodation expenses.
Application process
Candidates should submit their doctoral research proposals, outlining the focus of their planned research and intended methods. We accept a broad range of topics from the disciplines of international business, management, marketing, as well as international relations. Research proposals must be written in English and should be no longer than 5 000 characters, including spaces, which amounts to about 3 pages of text.
It is suggested that the research proposals cover the following points:
- the research problem the candidate wishes to address,
- theoretical and practical reasons for selecting the problem,
- the problem’s background in the literature – what gaps in scientific knowledge the candidate intends to fill with his/her research project a tentative set of research hypotheses,
- a graphical model illustrating the variables included in the study, their relationships and research hypotheses (similar to what is usually included in good empirical papers),

Special call for Ukrainian Partner Universities of SGH
We would like to invite doctoral candidates from Ukraine to submit their application and join the Summer School of International Business in Warsaw, on July 9-13. We will be happy to accommodate 2-5 Ukrainian doctoral candidates without a fee, for selected participants we can offer free accommodation in the SGH dormitory. Our Faculty
Professor Niina Nummela
Niina Nummela is Professor of International Business at the Turku School of Economics at the University of Turku, Finland and an EIBA Fellow. Her areas of expertise include international entrepreneurship, cross-border acquisitions, and research methods. She has published widely in academic journals and contributed to several internationally published books, also as an editor. In a bibliometric analysis, she was ranked among the 30 most impactful scholars in the field of International Entrepreneurship (Baier-Fuentes et al. 2019). Professor Pervez Ghuari
Pervez Ghauri completed his PhD at the Department of Business Studies, Uppsala University, Uppsala (Sweden) where he also taught for several years. Over the years Pervez has worked at Oslo Business School, Norway as Associate Dean, University of Groningen as professor of International Business and as Dean for Research. In 2001, he joined Manchester Business School (MBS) where he developed a Center for International Business. Later he joined King’s College London as Chair and Head of International Business and Strategy. Currently, Pervez is Professor and Chair of International Business at University of Birmingham, United Kingdom. Over the years Pervez has captured more than €10 million in research funding. At present his research deals with the externalities of Multinational Enterprises and their role in achieving United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. Recently, Pervez was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Economics, by University of Vaasa, (Finland).
Pervez has published numerous books including the Research Methods in Business Studies, now in 5th edition, by Cambridge University Press. He has authored more than 150 journal articles in journals such as Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of world Business, Journal of Organizational Behavior, International Marketing Review, Journal of Business Research, Management International Review and Long Range planning. In parallel, Pervez has been the founding Editor-in-Chief of the International Business Review. He was Editor (Europe) for the Journal of World Business between 2007 - 2014. At present he is Consulting Editor for Journal of International Business Studies since January 2017. Pervez is a Fellow for both the European International Business Academy (EIBA) and the Academy of International Business (AIB), where he was also elected Vice President between 2008 and 2010. Pervez has also been consulting companies such as BP, Ericsson and Airbus Industries.
Professor Agnieszka Chidlow
Agnieszka (Aggie) Chidlow is Professor of International Business at the University of Birmingham (UK). Her research interests lie in the areas of internationalisation of firms as well as methodological issues in international business. She has received numerous awards for her research (e.g., the Danny van Den Buckle paper award from the European International Business Academy). Her work has been published widely in various leading academic journals in the field of international business such as, for example, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of World Business, Management International Review and International Business Review. She has extensive teaching and research experience by holding several teaching and visiting positions at various universities around the world (e.g., UK, USA, Sweden, Poland, Singapore and China) over 2 decades. She is one of the co-founding members of the Academy of International Business Research Methods-Shared Interest Group (AIB RM-SIG). She is also currently a Working Board Member of the Responsible Research in Business and Management global network (RRBM), a panel member of the Accreditation of MBAs (AMBA), Senior Editor for International Business Review and a member of several editorial boards of internationally recognized journals. Professor Desislava Dikova
Desislava Dikova is Professor in International Business CEE focus at WU Wien/ Vienna University of Economics & Business and Head of Competence Center for Emerging Markets and CEE. She previously held positions at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands and King's College London, the UK. She earned her doctorate degree from the University of Groningen, the Netherlands, Executive Master in International and European relations from the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands and a Master of Science in International Economics from the Academy of Economics
D.A.Tzenov, Bulgaria. She is a co-founder of a digital health startup, in the process of launching cancer prophylaxis services in Poland.
Desislava Dikova has taught numerous EMBA courses for different programs, at the American University in Bulgaria, Fisher College of Business (Ohio State University), Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, Hult International Business School, Shanghai Campus and IBS Vilnius, Lithuania. Dikova is the Editor-in-chief of the Journal of East West Business (published by Taylor Francis), associate editor of the Journal of International Management (published by Elsevier) and International Business area editor of the European Management Review (published by Wiley).
