Application of PS IMAGO (SPSS) in the statistical analysis of quantitative data
Anna Morgan-Thomas, who is a Professor of Digital Management and Innovation at University of Glasgow in UK, will conduct an online workshop for PhD students entitled "Application of PS IMAGO (SPSS) in the statistical analysis of quantitative data".
This introductory course serves as a foundational exploration of data analysis techniques utilizing SPSS Statistics software. Geared towards researchers seeking proficiency in quantitative analysis, the course provides a comprehensive overview of key functionalities within SPSS. Over the course of the program, participants will familiarize themselves with SPSS's interface, learn to import, manage, and clean datasets, and delve into basic statistical analyses. Through a series of interactive sessions, attendees will gain practical experience in performing descriptive statistics, bivariate analyses, and hypothesis testing procedures using SPSS. Employing hands-on exercises, the course fosters a skill acquisition and knowledge retention. By the end of this course, participants will have gained the confidence to navigate SPSS, conduct preliminary analyses, and interpret their data with insight. The course is designed not just to teach software skills, but also to deepen the understanding of data analysis as a critical research tool.
• Understanding the SPSS environment and navigation
• Entering data into SPSS including importing and exporting datasets from/to various formats
• Managing data: Variable attributes, labelling, and coding
• Recoding and combing variables
• Getting to know the sample data using descriptive statistics
• Moving beyond the descriptive: understanding hypothesis testing and p-values
• Exploring bivariate relationships with crosstabulations and chi-square tests.
• Testing for differences: independent sample t-tests and ANOVAS
• Moving beyond the bivariate: running and interpreting a linear regression analysis
• Scale development with Cronbach Alpha
Prof. Anna Morgan-Thomas is a renowned expert in doctoral education in the UK. She has an extensive track record in academic leadership, including her role as Research Dean at the Adam Smith Business School (ASBS). Before this, she significantly contributed as the Dean of the Doctoral School at ASBS, where she supervised the research initiatives and development of 300 doctoral candidates and managed a team of 200 supervisors. Her tenure as Associate Director at the Scottish Graduate School in Social Science, the UK's premier doctoral training centre, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, involved supporting over 500 PhD students. With 18 completed doctorates and six presently under her guidance, Prof. Morgan-Thomas’s supervision has empowered many to forge successful careers in academia, with notable names including Dessart, Osuna, Zhao, and Ji, as well as in industry, such as Paternak, Natterman, and Carrick.
The course will be held on 10 and 17 June 2024 from 4 p.m. - 7.15 p.m via MS Teams.
